Title I

Did you know that Riverside is a Title I school? Because of this, we receive extra federal money to help pay for remediation, technology, programs, and teachers/assistants. Title I status is determined based on the percentage of Free/Reduced Lunch students at the school. This year, because meals are free, less people have completed the Free/Reduced Lunch forms. Please help us continue to be a Title I school by applying for Free/Reduced Lunch.

Please view our Title 1 Annual Meeting Video and take our short Parent Survey.

Safety & Supervision

By law, our staff provides supervision for your students for up to 30 minutes before the first bell and up to 30 minutes after the dismissal bell, in addition to all instructional hours. Students who arrive prior to 8:05 a.m. and are still here after 3:45 p.m. will be sent to Daycare and charged a $15/day drop-in fee.

The first bell rings at 8:30 a.m. The tardy bell rings at 8:45 a.m. Safety patrol is dismissed from the crosswalk at Red-stone Avenue no later than 8:40 a.m. so the crossing may be un-manned after this time.

With safety in mind, please be on time!

Any transportation changes MUST be made IN WRITING (or in person). Just send it to your child's teacher and/or brunsonb@okaloosaschools.com

Drop-off begins @ 8:15 a.m.

Dismissal begins @ 3:05 p.m.

Safe and Healthy Learning Environments

Dear Parent/Guardian,

Our goal is to provide a safe and healthy learning environment for all of our students and staff at Riverside. We rely heavily on each of you as parents to help us reach that goal. As we venture into cold and flu season, here are a few key reminders for everyone that will enable us to keep your child and our staff members as healthy as possible.

Per school board policy:

  • If your child has a fever (100.0 degrees or higher) they must remain at home until they are fever free.
  • If your child is vomiting or has diarrhea they should remain home for 24 hours after the last episode of vomiting or diarrhea.
  • Rashes: Because of the probability of rashes being contagious any student with a rash of unknown origin (undiagnosed) should remain at home until the rash has resolved or written permission is obtained from a physician permitting attendance. A copy of that doctor's note should be forwarded to the classroom teacher and school nurse. Any student with an undiagnosed rash at school should be picked up by a parent and advised to get a medical assessment.

In regard to open wounds/sores: Accidents happen! Boo boos are to be expected with young children. We ask that students with open wounds or sores have all open draining lesions covered with a bandage prior to arrival at school. Once those wounds have scabbed over and are no longer bleeding/draining a bandage is not necessary. This will protect your child from developing a secondary infection in their wound and will prevent other students and staff from being exposed to potentially infectious bodily fluids.

We appreciate everyone's cooperation in this matter and we look forward to sharing a happy and healthy school year with your family. If you have any questions, concerns, or are interested in reviewing school board policy regarding frequently encountered illness and injuries in the school setting please contact the school nurse or administration. We also greatly encourage you to visit the Okaloosa County School District website and review the Documents/Policies section.
